On CPU-Z it says my RAM is at PC2-6400(400Mhz) RAM is ment to be PC2-8500(1066Mhz) screeny of CPU-Z below

Thanks for any advice given.

Post up a pic of the memory tab in cpuz, as your screens are showing the spd tables which displays what the ram is programmed to run at, not whats set in bios.

My Corsair Dominators show as 6400, you will need to double check the BIOS for the timmings, voltage and frequency as these may need to be manualy inputed.

heres my memory tab pic

RAM is at 2.2v
timing is 5-5-5-18
frequency is 455Mhz

is that good? i have a feeling am not getting the best out of my Ram/overclock on a hole.

Your timings seem fine but your ram is running below rated speed, in the bios try the fsb-nb strap 333mhz, this will give a selection of ram speeds, which may give you the option to set the memory to its proper speed.

okay thanks for getting back to me....will i be able to overclock higher if i can set ram to the right rating which is 1066Mhz right? also can i change my timing to 5-5-5-15 or leave at 5-5-5-18?

Hey Dealz,

hehe that's not bad man! . . . you have no idea, some other forum members here would kill just to get 400MHz-FSB stable let alone 455MHz-FSB! :D

Your right though the memory frequency is running slightly underclocked in that screenie above but that is because you have it set synchronously (or 1:1) with your FSB.

If you have a nose through your BIOS (or the motherboard manual) you will see the following two options

  • FSB Strap to North Bridge
  • DRAM Frequency

If you first have a play with the DRAM Frequency you will see there are a bunch of different DDR2 speeds you can set, although to use them I suspect you will either have to start overclocking your memory or perhaps back down your FSB from 455MHz!

Few bits of software I recommend you download (if you havan't already) are:

Orthos Stress Prime 2004

Memtest86+ V2.11

IntelBurnTest v1.6

Orthos (Small FFTs Test, 30mins - 8 Hours) gives your overclocked CPU plenty to think about and will quickly let you know if the processor is nice and stable . . . and that's about all it is useful for however you can't really get onto testing your memory while being unsure that the CPU is working so get this boring bit out the way! :(

If your haven't done already (and your man enough!) I suggest you run IBT next on your system as is (maximum stress #1, 10 loops!), that will give your Processor, Northbridge and Memory a good kicking and help you be confident your system is 100% rock solid (hope you got good cooling!:D).

Download that Memtest86+ V2.11.iso and burn it to a CD-ROM, it's a classic bit of software and very useful when you are overclocking and testing memory. If Memtest86+ V2.11 passes dozens of loops but IBT fails that generally means the RAM is ok (and has enough volts) but their is a problem with the Northbridge . . . Possibly the CPU also! :)

Thanks for the reply Big.Wayne....am going to change my FSB Strap to 333Mhz and FSB RAM to 1066Mhz or 533Mhz that okay? also can i change my timing to 5-5-5-15 or leave at 5-5-5-18?

i would love to overclock as high as possible to the point where my PC will run for general use and gaming but doesnt have to be 100% stable.
