People with the max spec 13 inch (256ssd and i7) So my question to yall is: Have you used final cut pro 7 on these machines and how sluggish is it? I know I know it isn't designed for small machines like these but I'd like to learn the software as a friend has 3 licences with 1 unused, won't be ever doing heavy editing, just for basic knowledge that's all

I've not used Final Cut Pro X, let's not even get to that...

However, my Core Duo MBP 13' runs the previous Final Cut Studio just fine. Ultimately it's down to how you are going to use it.

Like anything, if you are doing simple edits, it will be fine.
If you start putting on huge stacks of layers it's going to take a while to render.

I agree, although with an i7 and SSD it should have quite a lot of grunt to say the least!
