Anyone having the same issue that this update, however many times I attempt to install it just keeps popping up as a software update?

Have found this thread which seems to indicate that my boot ROM version B0A has been missed out from the update package script - anyone else noticed this?

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2558004&start=0&tstart=0

Im getting no message other than it beeps for 2 seconds after restarting and goes back into OS X fine - but then when I check software update the same update is still there to be applied

Model ID: MacBookPro6,2
Current firmware: MBP61.0057.B0A
SMC Version: 1.58f16

Does it have the original hard drive in it?

I've seen updates fail on older Intel Macs due to hard drives with non-Apple firmware being installed.

Never mind - its seems you have to have it on charge for it to do the firmware update - without the charger all it does is download the update but never install it...

Not used it with external displays anyway, but as its in my software update I guess its applicable to my model...

P.S. Its gone from B0A to B0C and doesnt appear as an update anymore!

@MagicBoy - nope its all factory fitted...

Ah, that would explain it. Most laptops are the same. The manufacturers are scared stiff that the battery will run out while updating so it bricks the laptop.

Pretty sure it mentions having it plugged in when you look at the details.

It also fixes intermittent hangs some people had experienced. It is almost always worth accepting an update, even if you're not sure it directly applies. You never know! :)

Mine updated without the power lead in.

Maybe there's a minimum threshold.
Ive tried it several times, most recently with a full battery - it warned that I should have the power lead in (like all previous updates) but still allowed you to except that caution to proceed...
