HI Guys,

Bit of a weird one that I can't find much info about: Has anyone had their trackpad make a weird electronic click noise when lightly scrolling, or sometimes not even touching the trackpad?

It sounds almost like the sort of noise an electrical spark would make. Doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it's really bloody annoying.

Yes. I had this on my 15" 2010 MBP. I never took it to the apple store because it would be near impossible for them to hear. Half the time I thought I was imagining it myself. But it was definately there.

I think this is the central grounding pin in the center of the machine that makes a high pitched, metallic click/tick sound. It's a common fault and most apple stores now about it. If you have applecare just take it in and they should sort it, they did with mine.

I have this on mine I think.

I dont know how to simulate/prove it, but I get a click in the machine thats not the hdd.

Do you know how they fix it???

Thanks for this info, I've got an appointment in 40 mins with apple so I'll mention this. Do you have any more info and how it was fixed?

Update for anyone interested.

Took the MBP in to the apple store in covent garden today, told them "The trackpad intermittently makes an electrical sparking noise" and without me saying any more, they've offered to replace the top housing (keyboard, trackpad etc.) with no cost as it's under warranty. Happy with that! :)
