Hi,

Recently got the 15.4" MBP 2.4Ghz Version and i'm loving it so far :) just wanted to know if anyone else who got this model has upgraded the ram to 4GB from the usual 2GB, and if they have what sort of performance increase would i get.

BTW i use photoshop CS3, Aperture, and play some games both in OSX and Vista.

Thanks

A couple of people on here have, but I think they've upped the HDD too to the 7,200rpm one.

If your looking at upping the RAM to 4GB, then it will increase the performance in the programs you use, as they are RAM hungry apps.

I'm using the same Mac as you, and also run CS3 and have used Lightroom on it, and can't say I have felt the need to upgrade the RAM.

Thanks for that, regarding the hard drive i can install a 7200rpm one myself can't i?

I can just buy a 160gb 7200 from OCuK and install that :)

You can, but it will void your warranty. As long as you do it very carefully without breaking anything, and if it ever needs to go back to Apple for repair put your old HDD in, you should be okay.

Have a look at this guide.

I upgraded the ram to 4GB, haven't noticed any massive changes mainly because I did it a few days after I bought the laptop.

1GB to 2GB certainly. 2GB to 4GB, not so sure. Yes, I've no doubt you would see SOME improvement but I dont think it warrants the extra outlay.

But then again I'm a bang-for-buck kinda guy.
