If I get a MBP I will probably be using it a lot connected to the mains, can you take out the battery and run it from the mains, or do you need to keep the battery in at all times ? The last laptop I had running from the mains killed the battery quick.

They can be run without the battery but it limits the clock speed to 1GHz on my original rev 1.83.

Apple suggest draining and recharging the battery a month.

You can run without a battery but the processor will drop down to 1GHz, regardless of what speed it is. I believe the power is cut to the battery once it's charged, then reapplied when it drops slightly which allegedly keeps the battery condition in a better state than constantly keeping power applied.

Can't say I've noticed any major battery problems with any of my machines, and they are usually on power all day every day.

Also, once the battery is fully charged and plugged in with the power adapter - the charge bypasses the battery and only powers the machine.
