I've noticed recently that the battery on my Macbook Pro is holding the charge less and less and for the hours you have it on charge you only get around an hour back I've just checked the battery status and seen a new condition notification (I don't know if this is something that was brought in with Snow Leopard?) anyway it's saying 'Replace Soon'

My question is for a Macbook that was bought April of last year is it acceptable that I need the battery replacing 18 months later? For just shy of £100 I'm a bit sceptical about shelling out for a new one tbh
 
There's your answer, I seem to remember hearing that battery life is expected to be around 300 cycles.

I really should use mine more on the battery, it's eight months old and has had 15 cycles.
 
My MacBook has done 382 cycles over three years and is still 98% healthy. Have you been doing the regular full charge, full discharge, switch off and full charge cycle that helps keep the battery healthy?

Do that and it may reset the battery back to decent health. If not contact Apple and see what they say.

I do it once a month on my MacBook (it spends a lot of time on battery) and like I said it is three years old, running at 98% health and still gives me around four hours on battery.

I should imagine the newer batteries if looked after (and aren't duff) should last as long as the one has on my 2007 MacBook.

This is incorrect (A battery that died after 300 cycles would be crap!!). I know as I have had my battery replaced on my MBP. The correct information is that your battery is "faulty"/replaced under warranty if it loses more than 80% of it's charge capacity prior to reaching 300 cycles.

After 1 year I had like 250 cycles and only 75% of the charge. Got it replaced under Applecare, no quibbles.

You (OP) need to look at your maximum charge capacity and see what percent it is below what it was on day 1.

There is a thread with these details somewhere (as I used that for the info and got mine replaced!!)

Thanks guys I'll give this a go and see what happens

If needs be I'll just have to go and buy and new....... MBP (any excuse :p)

ta, although I only helped out cos I noticed he had a PS3 signature and I recognised his name from the consoles section :p

Read my links, I think you will be covered under Applecare. Can you paste your power stats from System Profiler ?

Hi all, has anyone tried one of these cheaper MBP batteries widely available for half the price of the one from apple?

Are they official/safe/of decent quality?

Anyone who has tried one out, would be really helpful if you could give some feedback on how you rated it.

Battery is stupidly poor now and as I wont be able to afford a new MBP till end of the year at the earliest I too am wondering what the deal is with the batteries that can be found for around £30?

Pop MA348G/A into google and it's amazing how cheap compared to the £99 that Apple charge you when you go direct to them, presumably there has to be some kind of con along the way?
