I'm off on a long trip soon and I'll be taking my 13" MacBook Pro mid-2010 laptop with me. I thought that it might be worth loading it up with a few games before I go.

In the past, I've tried Steam-based gaming under MacOS X but the performance has been very disappointing. Even Team Fortress 2 stutters at the first sign of action.

So what about bootcamp performance? I've already got Windows 7 installed so I thought I'd use that. Does anyone know what the C2D + GeForce 320M is capable of? Is installing something like Company of Heroes going to be a waste of time?

Cheers. :)

If you plan to play TF2 under Windows, I suggest some launch commands:

-novid

If you face bad performance, add -dxlevel 81 and remove it for the next start up.

Some console commands (Mac & PC, put them in a autoexec.cfg):
cl_showfps 1
r_3dsky 0
mat_hdr_level "0"
mat_picmip 1
cl_ragdoll_fade_time "5"

On my mate's MacBook, the Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz model w/ 9400M, the new AVP was unplayable on lowest settings and resolution... HL2 seemed fine though (although I don't know what settings he was using).

my i7 mbp with the 330 plays mw2, assassins creed2 fine. mw 2 is best at 1024x768. 1920x1200 is too much for it imo, although some people probably wouldn't mind. I like my games to buttery smooth as possible. Playing q3 for years at solid 125fps

I tested out a few games last night and I was pleasantly surprised. Running the Company of Heroes benchmark, the resulting score was "great".

I think I'll avoid Crysis for now though. :)
