MBP DVD Burning Problem

I was trying to burn a DVD yesterday, but iDVD didn't want to play ball.

I put in a normal Blank DVD+R and it just spun up for a while and then spat it back out asking me to insert a DVD. I then found a Dual-Layer Blank DVD and it did the same. Then I found a DVD-RAM (from the DVD recorder in the lounge) and that too did the same.

So I then decieded to try Toast, and that came up with:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
Sense Code = 0x26
INVALID FIELD IN PARAMETER LIST
I tried it a few times with different discs and also got another error:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x0C
WRITE ERROR

In the end I just transferred the IMG file to my PC over the network and burnt it on that (using the same DVD+R that my MBP refused).

My initial thought was that my MBP's drive evidently doesn't like that batch of discs, but actually I know I've burnt onto others from that same pack before.....

So now I'm thinking that either the burning driver has gone funny, or the drives broken.

Ideas anyone?

Sounds like the drive might have given up the ghost. Ring Apple?

Damn, was hoping someone would say it's a simple driver problem. :(

It's out of its standard warranty, but I bought the AppleCare..... so I'll take it into the Premium Reseller in town this afterooon and see what they say.

p.s. Apple - please open a shop in Bath!

Even Apple service centres need permission from HQ before they can carry out a repair as they wont get paid for it. What drive did they put in for you? as I can't stand some of the drives that apple have been using recently and they keep sending me the same drive for my machine, which doesn't support a lot of makes of discs.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on what they did.

It was a Repair Permissions under the Disk Utility they did....... so it would appear my problem was software not hardware. :)
