MBP for Photo Editing

I'd say the 13" air is better than the pro due to the higher resolution, but for serious stuff, I'd go for the 15" non retina with the higher resolution, matte screen unless you have the money for the retina model

For the same config, Non-retina is more expensive than the "retina" model. Why is that?

Is the MBPr more suited to photo editing on the road?

How much and how often are you going to be editing? You really want the biggest and highest resolution display you can afford.

Just to really rub it in :P Not for daily use, no way. The MBP 13" is fine for basic text work and whatnot, but it would be a PITA for graphics work. Would also add that while the Air is a higher resolution, you may find that it isn't really a huge difference.

Depending on what you require and your budget, an MBP 15" high res, or "retina" MBP would be better choices, of course. Otherwise...probably the Air along with an external 24" IPS display of some description.

When you say on the road what do you actually mean? Driving places in a car or backpacking round the world... Or something in between?

I find the Air fine for photo editing, but would still use a proper monitor to actually do the real work (and a mouse). The 15" model (yes even the "retina" version) will have most of the same problems, it may be high resolution but you'll have to be squinting 6" from the screen to really make it count...

Tiny portable laptop for editing on the road and then attach it to a proper screen when you get back IMO.

Got some projects where I'll be spending a week or 2 in some places and I just need something where I can review, edit and send some samples. So, could be something in between.
