Ok, so I went to use my MacBook this morning and log in to OSX as usual...
Next thing it freezes (really rare). So I do a hard power reset. On reboot the grey screen and chime plays as usual - but no Apple logo. Instead there's a folder icon with a question mark on it flashing.
I reset the PRAM, which made no difference. So I took out the HDD and put it in a USB caddy to test in my PC. The drive loads up fine, and all partitions are intact. So I give it another try in the laptop with no avail. I also managed to get Disk Utility to scan the drive for any problems, and that came back without finding any issues.
Just out of curiosity, I decided to try connecting it via USB. To my surprise the Lion partition was detected and it's now booted back into my original OSX (albeit via USB).
Now I'm stumped. Sounds like a serious problem with the logic board if this is the case. I'm open to suggestions as to what else I could try before I book a Genius appointment.
