Can't believe how much apple charge for memory when ordering it directly from them. Just had a look on the order page and its an extra £450 to change from 2GB to 4GB. Now I've just ordered it from another memory provider and it only costs £115!

Don't know why apple want to charge so much for this change seeing as it is so cheap other places. So remember to always get the minimum amount of memory you can from apple and then upgrade yourself later.
 
Until people stop buying then I can't see them changing the prices.

It's classic Apple... introduce product, keep price consistent when market value falls around it.
 
At least with the graphics they need to be EFI based cards rather then standard PC stuff. You can't unfortunately just drop in a standard bios based card.

Still I am looking at getting a Mac Pro after the next refesh when hopefully offer a better card then the 7300GT and a MacBook Pro, will be ordering basic and then upgrading myself to the spec I want in terms of disk and memory.

You can drop in a Windows-flashed card, OS X just won't recognise it.

A lot of people have done this because they want to game in Windows and don't want to pay the OTT prices for the OS X-flashed cards.

For instance, you get a 7300GT as a base card on the Mac Pro, then buy a 8800GTX and put it in as well.. that way, booting in to Windows you'll have the 8800GTX, but OS X can use the 7300GT with no fear of conflict :)
 
I know people buy it - hell, I did through work because we didn't want the hassle of getting it from another provider. It's £450 yes, but it's from a budget that we get given freely so it's no skin off our nose. :)
