MBP Mic Problems

hi,

Having problems getting my external mic to work with my mac, i have gone into the sound preferences and changed it to use line-in instead of built-in but it doesnt seem to be getting any signal. I have tried 2 different mics with no joy.

Any ideas??

Stupid question here but did you mistakenly plugged it into the audio-out jack? That happened to me on a couple occasions with my MB.

Does the build in mic even work?

long shot buddy but - is it a 'proper' recording mic as opposed to a cheap pc type mic ? if so it may need to be phantom powered in which case it won't work directly plugged into the mic input of the laptop cos there simply isn't enough juice.. good luck

yep as above.

unpowered mics don't work on mac laptops

It needs to be a proper powered style.
