MBP Question

Had my MBP for about 2 years now, bought it through the Education store with the extended warranty.

Recently it has developed a habit of randomly locking up, during which the screen begins to flicker and looks drained with different colours. On resetting it works fine and then the same happens.

Any ideas what this might be?

Will Apple replace it or try to fix it?

Just did a quick search and came across your thread, Im also having this problem (not sure about error reports, i dont know how you access them), have you managed to resolve your problem?

Is it the MBP with the 8600M graphics?

Mines the 9400M, mid 2009 MBP. Judging by Scott saying he's had his 2 years perhaps his is the 8600M is this a known problem?

(Ive done some googling but though people are having similar issues, its usually when playing games as far as I can tell)

The 8600M was prone to dying. NVIDIA acknowledged it but allegedly said that Apple hardware wasn't affected. There was discontent because Apple refused to acknowledge it as a fault as far as I can remember. But they bent last year and started replacing MBPs with dead 8600M four years from purchase date.
