my MBP 13 inch is running really hot using the istat pro widget it says my CPU is at a temperature of 81c!

that normal for these macs? the north-bridge is also running at 53c

Intels mobile processors have much higher thermal tolerances than the desktop variety.
They are designed so they can get hot sat in a small metal/plastic shell.

Id only get worried when you break 100

A few mins ago I was ripping a cd copying files from one hdd to another whilst running time machine and playing wow and it got up to 90 degrees before the fans kicked it down to about 75.

lol o nice got bit scared the fans went up to like 4500rpm lol, the noise was scaring me haha

Mine span right up to over 6k rpm :D you may have a way to go yet.

Another thing I've noticed with snow leopard is that the fans tend to be reving up at a slightly lower temperature. Not so they are on a lot, but it just gives them a bit of a head start when I really hammer the poor little thing.

you could install Coolbook (need to pay a fee) which allows you to lower the voltage thus making your Macbook run cooler.

Just think of us poor nVidia 8600M GT owners.. playing with the solder of death! (basically if the GPU gets too hot it unsolders itself due to nVidia's mess up)

I use smc fan control a lot. Currently my fans are at 4000rpm and temps 45degC as the ambient temperature is quite high. Probably needs clean out again too.

o i just leave fans to do what apple told them to do, therefore if they break its apples fault not mine lol.

i have noticed aswell that the vent the air escapes from seems to be blocked if u put the screen back a bit.

wow im glad i dont have that trouble nickk, i'd be constantly worried that its gonna go wrong lolol

My MacBook is usually around 45 degrees at 1800 RPM, that's usually while browsing and listening to iTunes. If I watch flash videos however it gets to about 55 degrees at a much higher RPM. :(

What is this 'cleaning' people are talking of?

Do you send it back to Apple and they clean it out for you or is it something you can do yourself?

Thanks!
