Hey all,

It's a bit difficult to describe what just happened to my laptop screen. I walked in to the room and saw 10 beams of dark shadow coming from the base of the screen to about an inch high. They were cone shaped and were darkest near the bottom. They stayed there no matter what application I had open and was clearest when I opened a white background document.

The best way to describe it would be if there were 10 little lights at the bottom of the screen and normally they operated as on. However, this time they went off. I'm not sure if that's what a backlight is, so I don't want to say "My backlights gone".

A restart seemed to fix it, but should I take it in to an Apple shop and get it checked out?

Yes.

This is a common problem with the MacBook Pros (not sure if it effects -Pro). They may replace the panel for you if need be.

How long does that usually take?

Thanks

I think it's only a matter of screws - any real wait would come with queues, ordering parts and luck.

It may not need replacing at all, but if it's something that's irritating you or becoming a regular occurrence then I would advise it. It would get very annoying.
