hey there just been looking into grabbing a new MBP and was looking at the SSD upgrades. just wanted to know what SSDs they use? they advertise 128gig and 256gig ones that seem in the price region of the crucial C300 drives. but if they are not i would rather get the conventional drive and buy my own C300 or get something.

basically what SSD drives do they use?

thanks for your time. :)

From what I have read I think the SSD drives used by apple are Toshiba's. Obviously they outperform regular hard drives but are not that great compared to the offerings of other manufacturers. I would look at the price difference and probably just install my own SSD if it dosen't cost that much more.

Deffo this.

Plus changing the hard drive int he unibodies does not void your warranty!!

and is extremely easy to do!

Is there a guide on the web for this... I have had a look around but cant find one for the newer MBPs (got mine in Jan 2010)

I was going to get a SSD back then, but didn't have the funds, but now i might upgrade :p

My vague recollection is I needed to ferret out my torx drivers to do it, so 'extremely easy' is probably overstating it. It's not hard though...

Well yes that is true lol. Although I do have a handy tool box with every type in it!

:p

(although with that being said for some reason I dont fancy doing it to my mini! :o )
