Hey All,

My brother decided to use my MBP last night, even though we have 2 others laptops in the house, whilst making this tea, and dropped a can of beans on to my trackpad making a nice 2" long dent in it

I'm presuming this isn't covered by my applecare, so i'm just wondering if anyone has any idea how much this would cost to sort out?

Can't believe he was stupid enough to use it in the kitchen whilst cooking in the first place :o

Thanks in advance!

Both my flatmates enjoy cooking over their laptops - probably one of the stupidest things you can do, sums them up really

yea, my brothers doesn't have the greatest of minds, but I thought he would know this was a bad idea, he isn't even supposed to use it, because he dropped it the last time he used it, and dented the bottom of it by dropping it!!!

he only used it because i wasn't in, he is 26, so i would have thought it would have known better!

well, it's my dad's home insurance, and he did offer to claim on the insurance, because he said it was partly his fault because he said my brother could use it, either though they both know they ain't supposed to be using it :S

you think that would be the best option? i was hoping to teach my brother on of life's little lessons, but i don't really want him to be out of pocket, but i suppose i could just drop a can of beans from the upstairs window onto his new car? an eye for a eye as they say, in fact should i just take his eye? ha!

Just tell your brother he has to repair the damage. Seems clear that someone is going to be out of pocket and shouldn't be you.

thanks for the advise guys, i'm gonna take it to the apple store tonight and get a quote for the work, my dad has agreed to claim off the house insurance seeing as he feels partly to blame.

Another annoying thing is that the trackpad has been playing up for a while and then case around the keyboard has started coming loose, and i was gonna take it in so they could fix it while i'm away snowboarding next week, but they aren't going to repair it under my apple care now, so it's really annoying!

EDIT: and i will be putting a password on it from now on! arggg!

They'll likely replace the upper palm rest / case as a whole.

Cannot comment on price. I don't eat beans ;)

Hey, just thought I'd let you know that apple are going to replace my trackpad under my AppleCare, because part of the top plate, the bit round the keyboard, is coming away from the base, and the trackpad is part of the top plate, so I'm well chuffed :)

Thanks for all the advice, I'm just glad no one is going to out of pocket :)
