As subject. My early 2011 MBP 13" was replaced by my insurer for a 2012 model (presumably because nobody has 2011 stock any more). I get a better processor, better integrated graphics and twice the hdd space. Score!

Unfortuantely after six weeks of owning it I've just gotten around to needing to burn a live DVD (Linux). I pushed a disc into the drive slot as is customary but noticed that rather than the mechanism 'grabbing' the disc and pulling it in, it just went right into the machine.

I didn't push hard, only enough that my muscle memory knows it takes a superdrive to recognise and 'grab' a disc out of your hand. After ten minutes fangling around with a hair clip I've retrieved said DVD but have a teensy tiny chip in my nice shiny new unibody at the edge of the slot.:(

The eject button does nothing (presumably because the drive doesn't recognise it's got a disc inside), and now I'm looking at a trip to the Apple Store tomorrow, if they can fit me in. Does anyone have any ideas in the interim? Probably not but I figured it was worth a shot. TIA.

EDIT: BTW, yes the drive shows up in 'About This Mac' so it's not failed outright it seems.
