Has anyone else had any issues with McAfee's technical support?

Today my security suite was playing up and kept saying that spyware checking was disabled and I got a long list of errors every time I tried to do a scan.

I contacted their support team and did a live chat with a technician. The first time I was told to simply reboot my computer which did nothing. The second time they told me I had a virus infection and they would remove it for £60. This really made me angry and I told them if I have got a paid subscription with them and they want to charge me for removing a virus, I may as well go somewhere else. Then they said they would do it for free :p I was told a technician would phone me within 2 hours to guide me through the removal.

5 hours later..

I decided to contact them back again as I had not received my phone call. I was then connected to the same person and he said I had to pay! After a long argument he transferred me to the virus removal team who told me that there was no virus, but a sector of my registry had become corrupted. I then had to give him remote access to my computer, which I was not comfortable with, so that he could fix it.

 Very angry at this point!

After I restarted my computer I was still getting the same problems and so I had to contact them again! Finally, someone who actually knew what they were doing came along and sorted it all out. But after contacting them 5 times before something was actually done, I feel something needs to be said.

Which brings me back to my first question: Have you had any issues with McAfee's technical support?

I've heard of people being asked to pay in the past for getting an infection sorted. When your licence runs out, uninstall it and use the free version of Avast instead.

When i bought this Dell, i was given 15 months of free McAfee. Only to get a notice from McAfee saying, "You have reached the number of downloads for your licence. If you require another licence, it will cost you £10". So, I went and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials for free.:D

The only problem that I had with McAfee (albeit quite a while ago) was when it came pre-installed on a laptop which I bought my wife. It took me a while to get it off and finally, due to the amount of other "free" trash customising the Windows install I gave up trying to remove the bloat and simply formatted and started again.
I now use MSE as my AV and Windows Firewall Control to supplement the built in one of Windows 7.
