Has anyone here who uses MCE 2005 managed to get freeview working through a freeview box?

I have a Hauppauge PVR500 card, Sagem freeview box and an indoor DVB-T aerial (which I know works as I did Freeview set up on the big telly).

If I run set up and choose Ananlogue Aerial with this lot all attached I only get BBC1 BBC2 ITV and C4 and its certainly not freeview quality.

If I then choose the DVB-T Aerial option in set up it scans for channels and can't find any.

Can someone help?

Thanks

uh

Does the pvr500 have a dvb-t tuner, if not you wont get any channels.

Then the only way to watch freeview is via some sort of output from the sagem, however mce wont be able to change channels unless you have one of those magic eye thingies.

I think you are misunderstanding how to get freeview on a PC.

You have to buy a DVB-T enabled TV card to watch freeview on the PC. You have bought an analogue tv card so you can only get analogue channels.

I dont get it.

A normal telly with a normal tuner can pick up my freeview channels through the Sagem freeview box. How is this any different?

Is the sagem box a converter freeview box connected up to the Hauppauge PVR500 card?

If thats the case you need to connect 2 freeview boxes up to the PVR500 to pickup and scann freeview channels.

It goes Indoor DVB-T Aerial > Sagem Freeview Box > PVR 500

all via Co-Axial cable

i've tried that before with PVR150MCE, never managed to get freeview channels from freeviewbox work properly, gave up at the end. you really need freeview TV tuner for PC :(

From my understanding of that setup -> you would only ever pick up one channel - the Freeview Box Channel. And maybe you dont even have to tune that I am not sure.

Thats just it, the only channels I get are 1,2,3 and 4

Um its tuning into analogue tv from the aerial, probably because its an analogue tuner

check to see how the freeview box would connect to a telly, if it has an rf out you need to tune the pc card to this and then change channel on the freeview box

just buy a pc dvb-t tuner, usb will do

Your freeview box probably doesn't have an RF modulator.

PCI DVB-T card is a MUCH better solution as the freeview quality via RF out will be pretty poor.

As the others have said, you can get Freeview into a MediaPC but you have to have the MediaPC tuned to the Freeeview box and then use an IR controller tochange channels on the Freeview box to change channels. Frankly with the cost of a DVB tuner card it is more hassle then it is worth.

MCE2005 is pretty tied down, you will be better off getting a DVB-T card or DVB-T USB and using that as the TV tuner card as you can change channels on the tuner easily and you don't have to worry about IR blaster etc to change channels.

is a good card as dual tuner for MCE. Be aware there are two PVR-500 cards, an analogue and a freeview one. I have linked the freeview one. Set as a Freeview/DVB-T and connect aerial. This way can watch one channel and record another.

Thanks,

So with that, I can ditch my freeview box?

FYI, it does have RF out (thats what the coaxial cable from the freeview box to the current tv card is connected by). It also has a scart socket, but this isnt used.

How would you find out what channel the freeview box was on?

You'd have to tune the PVR 500 to recieve the Sagem signal, then you'd be able to see what was being picked up by the Sagem. Otherwise you have no idea what channel the Sagem is currently on.

I've managed to get it working with a hauppauge analogue usb device and a panasonic freeview box.

I used a s-video cable going from the freeview box to the tv card (i needed a scart to svideo adaptor). I don't think you can do it with a coax cable into the tv card as windows mce thinks it's an analogue tuner. You'll need either a s-video or composite cable.
