I was helping a friend build his HTPC yesterday, and he has Vista Ultimate edition.
He wanted to give MCE a go, before he goes down the Media-Portal route.
We could not for the life of us, get it to play any movies he had on his system though! The message "could not play content, no codecs were found...."
Now the strange thing is, he has all the codecs needed, and when he tries to open the files with just Windows Media Player, it plays just fine.
Any suggestions?

hmm after i had a look at those, it didnt quite make sense.
My mate has the drivers to play the files just fine and dandy, it's only media centre that doesnt want to play it

ATTENTION: if you use a 64bit versions of Windows; Here is an add-on to the codec package that will install 64bit components. The add-on must be installed AFTER the codec package. This installer is switch-less, executing it = installed. It is specifically tailored for use with the Vista Codec Package. Last Modified - January 25, 2007
The add-on solves issues with 64bit MediaCenter in Vista Ultimate installations.
