Why do some games have a -mce.exe version?

i know mce must stand for media center edition, but what benefits are there running it?

for example, with Dead Space i have:

Dead Space.exe and Dead Space-MCE.exe

any ideas?

Its something to do with Windows Media Center, I can't remember what exactly just that it used to annoy me on The Witcher as it booted up WMC when I exited the game until I realised I was using the wrong .exe.

Basically you can set WMC to load on boot then you have all your games, movies, live TV, etc. in one place - it's normally better connected to a big TV then just use a remote control to launch the games and a wireless mouse / keyboard to play them.

WMC is actually very, very good.

Yup - it's designed for people with Media Centre PC's to launch the game from within the Windows Media Center UI.

It's a requirement for any game carrying the 'Games for Windows' branding to support this feature.
