MCE Problems

Good evening all.

I am in need of a spot of help. Although the title isn't quite accurate.

My brother has MCE on his media pc at home, and uses MCE to record TV through his Digital TV card. Now, using MCE one can view anything that has been recorded no problem, However when i get him to record something for me, and i try and view the file(s) on a pc that doesnt have MCE, I cant view them at all. They are MPEG 2 files (and i have an MP2 decoder) but they have also been coded using something else that seems to be part of MCE. Is there any way i can view these files by downloading a specific codec?

I would very much appreciate any help people can offer!

Many thanks,

Woodsy

sounds strange, I've never seen or heard of this before, try installing VLC and see if they play in that

The reason they don't play is because they are Microsoft Recorded TV Shows, only available to people with MCE on their PC, or Software which was pre installed on their PC like me (TV viewing software)

As stevechapman said you have to be registered/enabled..

as with ALL (well all i've come across) audio/video formats you can convert them to any type, and for free

Yeah, you can try converting them.
As for just viewing them as you are, I am sure there is some sort of device which was installed with Windows, because I have just tried playing one of my recorded TV show's in VLC Media Player and it worked fine.

Damn it. I cant get it to work. The zip file for the filters that need to be implemented have been removed. Without them i cant do anything :(

hmmmmmmmm this is weird
I remember recording a Program onto our MCE PC
Then later burning the recorded file straight onto a DVD-RW
My Dad then watched it on our Laptop with XP Pro in Windows Media Player.

So why did that work and your's doesn't...

Have you for SP2 installed. People at work running XP SP1 can't play my recorded shows. People with SP2 can play them fine and have never had to downloading anything to get them working.

AHA! it works. V1.3 contains all that is needed. I had to run a.bat file in the zip provided. After that it converted 1.2GB of tv into MPG in about 2 mins.

Thanks everso much for getting that link, i very much appreciate it! Bledd. your a legend
