Hi guys,

I'm trying to install Microsoft Media Centre 2005 on my shuttle PC at home but have come across a rather anoying problem!

I can boo of *** installation CD fine, make the relevant partitions, format and copy installation files fine the problem coems when I want to boot off *** disk to begin the installation. The progress bar (the one under the XP logo on boot up) 'blob' will scroll acorss once or twice, but will then freeze and nothinng will happen, I've tried restarting several times but to no avail. The bar seems to freeze in exactly the same place every time!

Any help would be great,

Thanks,

James

1st question. Is the Harddisk SATA or IDE? If its SATA have you installed the drivers needed for windows to see the disk controler?

2nd question. Have you ran memtest to see if maybe the ram is the problem? This is very common with and windows install. If there is a ram error or problem then the install fails around the same point.

You could also try pulling one stick of ram out (if you are using two that is) and try reinstalling from scratch (rebuild partitions and format again). If the error still happens i would say its a RAM problem and you would definatly need to run memtest over night running a thorough scan.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've tried numerous amounts of RAM but nothing seems to work.

I have found a forum that seems to suggest that the error is caused by me having a prescott P4 CPU, anyone experienced this?

Also, is it possible to upgrade to MCE straight from an XP Pro installation?

Regards,

James
