Im building a machine which is going to be running MCE2005 on as a media box, only thing is i want to be able to use this machine as a download box too which I can run a torrent client on and be able to connect to remotely, is this possible with MCE?

IIRC Media Center Edition has all the features of Professional, but without being able to join a domain (without a registry hack - which makes it Professional + Media Center).

So in theory at least, you should have Remote Desktop available.

So you do have the ability to install applications etc? I was going to use a variation of remote desktop/pcanywhere.

Aslong as you can install applications like you can with XP, thats all I need.

i was confused about this before getting it too

MCE is just xp home, but it has a program on it that you can run called media centre, basically it's a fullscreen windows media player, with tv :)

No its not.

Its XP PRO with Media Center added, and domain joining removed via dll and registry.

is there any way of doing it the other way around?

can you get XP on the machine then install some sort of media portal

Lol, you used the exact words that describe that situation.

"Media Portal" is a free Media Center style application that can sit on top of a "normal" Windows XP installation.
