Ron Dennis is expected to announce today that he is stepping back from his involvement with the McLaren Formula 1 squad he ran for 28 years.

I wonder whether this is as a result of the influence of Hamilton's father Anthony, a belief by Ron Dennis that the rumoured long-term antagonism between him and Max Mosley is damaging to McLaren F1 or an expectation that F1 in its present form has reached the end of the road?

Perhaps Mercedes will end its association with McLaren next year; Lewis Hamilton will move on, maybe to Brawn-Virgin-Mercedes and McLaren will bow out before it goes the way of so many other great names in Formula 1?

Dennis has been slowly backing out of the F1 side of things for some time now, I thought to focus his attention on the new road cars.

I thought he was just basically a spectator this year?

Seems to me that when the scandal in Australia unfolded it was possibly Ron Dennis that perhaps mentioned to Whitmarsh something like "you could get 3rd here if you fiddle the stewards... ;);):)"

This isn't news is it? I thought it was common knowledge for the past few years that he was about to take a back seat and was going to finally move away from the F1 team totally.

Ron Dennis effectively passed control over at the end of last season to focus on running the other businesses within the McLaren Group, so this is just spin for the papers - nothing else.

The press do seem to forget that F1 fans are pretty into whats going on in their sport but still feel the need to "make things up as they go".

There is tons going on at the moment about whats going to happen to McLaren when they go in front of the FIA, if this happens, and if that happens, this could happen and that could happen. Lets all just wait and see what the punishment is for lying to the stewards (twice) is if you are McLaren.

Then we will see if Lewis wants to stay and fight for the team or if the love really has been lost.

About as news worthy as "sun came up this morning" I'm afraid.
+2

Honestly, the OP could easily write for the press.. :)

The end of the day MacLaren is a business, it's sponsors largely pay for the amount of 'air time' they get, and although bad press isn't always good for sponsors, in the controversial world of F1, this will have been forgotten about like all other 'scandals' in a matter of weeks..
They have the money, and no doubt will get their car/driver back close to the top by the end of the season.. everyone will be happy.
To suggest LH quits a good team that got him a world title just because of a hiccup would make him as fickle as the 'change with the wind' fans that suddenly love Brawn GP, and being fickle does you absolutely no favours what-so-ever when it comes to business and self-interest

All this Brawn GP love is silly, I don't understand why everyone is a fan.

I'm just happy to see Button's determination pay off.

with all **** he's been having over last couple of seasons then to take a MASSIVE pay cut...he deserves it the most imo

plus he's british so he has to have are support :)

but im in no way a glory brawn fan :)

Yeah, right Ron, we believe you

Ron Dennis has handed over complete control of McLaren Racing to team principal Martin Whitmarsh, ending his 43-year involvement in Formula 1.
...
"I admit I'm not always easy to get on with. I admit I've always fought hard for McLaren in Formula 1," he said. "I doubt if (FIA president and SM fan) Max Mosley or (F1 supremo & midget) Bernie Ecclestone will be displeased by my decision."

However, Dennis, who first took over as McLaren team principal in 1981, insisted at a news conference that the timing of his departure from F1 was "purely coincidental" and not linked to the team's upcoming FIA hearing.

I used to think he was quite a straight shooter, but i think there is a lot more to the lying to the stewards than meets the eye. Again another admission of guilt that this went right to the top, move evidence for the FIA.

It also makes me wonder more about the spying scandal too now.

McLaren have always been up and down. Anyone remember Nigels Mansell's return in the mid 90's, McLaren gave him an awful car. They didn't really start doing well again for a few years.

As for Ron Dennis, I expect he wants more time with his family.

What family, his missus left him and iirc his kids are grown up.

McLaren are planning to launch a new new supercar and Big Ron is going to run that part of the McLaren Group.

Whether Ron had anything to do with the lying we will never know, but honestly I dont think he would have to be fair. Its no secret that Max "I love to be spanked and my dad was a Nazi" Mozley and Ron have NEVER seen eye to eye and Ron has done everything he can for the F1 team.

As for the Brawn love, English Driver, English Owner, both thought they would be watching from their front rooms so I think its actually well deserved! Ross Brawn is a legend in F1 - he was to Ferrari what Fergie is to Man U.
And specially as this rear defusser issue being resolved was the biggest F U to the other teams.....

Go on Brawn!
