Well, I've spent the last week tweaking the PC to overclock and run into a problem.
Specs...
ASrock N7AD-SLI motherboard
Intel quad core Q8200 2.33ghz CPU
8MB (4*2) DDR2 800 mhz ram
Coolermaster V8 cpu cooler
Antec 900 case
GTX 580 g/card
Now I've managed to get the cpu up to 2.940ghz before getting instability on boot up and it seems to run fine at this speed.
Ran Prime95 for over an hour with core temperatures reaching a max of 64/65C on core 3 with the others just under and no faults or errors. While the GPU sits at 50C quite happily. Vcore at 1.425v
Due to the BIOS (I think), the memory will only run at 664mhz due to FSB limitations but the timings tighten up so not to worried about that.
(6-6-6-18-24 (800mhz)) (5-5-5-15-20 (664mhz)).
However, after about 4-5 hours I get a screen freeze that requires a soft reset and then get this constantly and within a few minutes until I run it at stock speed.
Leave it off overnight and I can crank it back up with no problems until I hit the screen freeze again. Repeat procedure as above.
Now all temps are showing ok, but on the Nvidia system monitor it shows my MCP (I assume maths co-processor) running at 65C +. At stock it's about 43C - 50C.
Could this be the problem for the lock up?
There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about CPU temps and speeds. For instance on the Q8200 I've read everything from 65C (what I stick to for temp limit) up to 80C - 85C.
Also I've read getting my cpu up to 440 and 460 on the FSB... 3.0 to 3.2ghz.
I can get to 420 before lock up and 2.94 ghz seems to be the barrier for me.
Feel slightly miffed at this lol....
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
