Mcpherson strut rebuild query.

I am about to rebuild my Capri struts & have two queries, firstly what type of grease is the red grease in the shock housing and secondly do my new springs require the plastic bits on the coil ends like the factory ones had?

I presume these are queries common to all mcpherson struts so someone will know?

It's just red rubber grease no? Friendly for the rubber parts.
