Has anyone done this certification? Just wondering how hard it was and what the best resources are to learn? I've done some server stuff before but only just started properly learning all the features.

CBT nuggets do some great videos on this, im actually learning the 410 exam myself. Would highly recommend them although they are not free

I am also looking to upgrade to this later on in the year. I completed my Server 2008 MCSA last year and the questions were ridiculous.

you learn more by reading the books for relevant topics. Be prepared to learn a feature or role inside out that nobody uses in the real world. the 2008 exam was very hard, with a lot of trick questions.

in my opinion, if you have over 5 years of experience in Server operating systems, I wouldn't bother doing the exam.

If you have 5 years and the qualification you are going to be in a better place than someone who hasn't done the qualification. You have to think a lot of CV binning is done by non-technical people which means if they don't see the qualification then you may automatically get excluded. I've always kept my certifications up to date from MCSE 2003 (and now I'm MCSE 2012).

I remember the entire MCSE (of which the MCSA is part) being relatively hard. I had the books and my own Hyper-V lab (as I knew there would be questions on Hyper-V). The hardest exam was one which was nigh on entirely CA based (I knew the basics but not to he level that the exam wanted - I think that was the 412 exam).

I've never, ever regretted getting certified. It's gotten me a hell of a lot of interviews at the very least in the past. It's also gotten me pay raises as I had a distinction between me and my peers. Yes we may be doing the same job but I was getting qualified as well.

It's true that a lot of job adverts and agencies ask for MCSE as a requirement and as an added advantage, but I have to say, I would often spend more time studying experience on a CV when I have shortlisted.
We've had some MCSE's (that I didn't recruit) who have been shocking in front of a fundamental real world server fault.
Having said that, some places do a practical test so it's not all interview, but there are some exam crammers out there give the time served specialists a bad name!
