Hi,

I've worked in IT for the last 12yrs, but I've always managed to dodge needing an MCSE cert for all my previous positions.

Well the time has come to get my certs..

I am not going to spend however much they want at a proper training class, as they are too expensive.

I am going to go the home learning route.. I was primarily an AS/400 tech, but have always had a dabble in NT/2000/2003 server, but it's not been my full bread and butter, so i will need to be taught quite a bit.

Admitally i'm not one with that much patience, so i would like to hear from others who have tried some of these home learn courses and let me know how you've faired with them.

Thx

Not bad

They aren't too bad. Hh use as an engineer. On the other hand, if you have some machines t home/work to tinker with and set up scenarios then you can learn a lot. I'd forget about stuff like computeach and get the Microsoft manuals and maybe checkout sites like certcities.com. MAybe explore amazon.com for books on becoming a MCSE.

I have done CCNP, CCDP and CCIE from extensive lab basedlearning and found it can be very effective if you have the self discipline and - hopefully - employer support.

Regards,
Steve

if you intend on just memorising loads of ***** from manuals etc and then taking the tests you ain't gonna be much use as an engineer.

Edit the sweary out or star it fully or the mods will set the dogs on you!
