I would have put that Blade rumour down a bull excrement but Variety is hardly a tin pot outfit.
Why would it be. It’s pretty much par for Disney atm. The M-She-U. Not as if we haven’t seen major characters pushed to the side on the big screen never mind a TV show.

The access media is only starting to print this stuff now because Disney is free game atm. They know the tide is changing and people aren’t listening to their lies anymore.

Loads of justice woke warriors will be downvoting this, purely because it has three women in the lead roles and only one is white.

Yep. This is how it works. Movies bomb because of female leads, or because they're white ....

Oh wait nobody gives a **** who the lead is and just wants a good, creative, original, well directed movie regardless who the lead is.

Alien, aliens, kill bill this lost could go on and on for original movies with a female lead that proves this too. Make a good movie and it'll do well, make a crap movie and it won't.

There are plenty of people who consider Disney as ’gone woke’ and will blame this wokeness for their issues. There are a few of them on here in fact.

Why should they?
Because people always cite Aliens and Kill Bill, then stop there - Generally because when you really stop to think about it, there aren't a lot of good 'original' action movies with female protagonists
Keep going then.

There's been a real dirth of decent action films full stop, its nothing new that just impacts one of the sexes... bar the john wick/MI series of movies and marvel phase 3 I'm struggling to think of any good action movies in the last decade. And if course one of the biggest releases of the last 10 years was a female lead movie.

That's the problem with pesky facts - people tend to believe them, especially when the have seen it played out time and time again right in front of their eyes.

As you provided a (copy/paste) list, I'll do the same for you then, fairs fair - here's a list of successful/good (maybe not to me tbh) action films that have either a female lead or share a lead -

Alien 1-4 & Prometheus
Kill Bill 1-2
Terminator 1-2 & 5-6
Predator: Prey
Thelma & Louise
Mr & Mrs Smith
Salt
Tomb Raider 1-3 inc Remake
Wanted
La Femme Nikita & Remake
Resident Evil 1-6
Fifth Element
Mad Max Fury Road
Alita: Battle Angel
Atomic Blonde
Underworld 1-4
Haywire
Charlies Angels 1-2
Wonder Woman 1-2
Captain Marvell
Black Panther 2
Hunger Games 1-3
Ant Man 2
Black Widow
The Woman King
Star Wars 7-9
Star Wars: Rogue One
V for Vendetta
Birds of Prey
Hannah
The Old Guard
The Long Kiss Goodnight - (a personal favourite)
Colombiana
Lucy
GI Jane
Sucket Punch
Red Sparrow
Everly
Ghost in the She'll (anime & live action)
Electra
Mulan (animated & live action)
Oceans 8
The River Wild
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once

So yeah there's 70 films at least before I got bored but there's still plenty more films from the 70's & 80's to go.

No one is debating the fact that Disney their offerings and both the movies and the performance of Disney+ recently have been poor. What I can’t abide by is the constant cries of ‘it’s because they went woke! Too many female leads! Too much representation of minorities! Bring back the white men!’ When while that may have a small part to do with it, making fragile, masculine men stay away, the real reason is the poor writing, poor stories, rushed productions and bad screenplays and direction. Yet we still see it here and elsewhere, fully placing the blame for Disney’s woes on them going woke.

Yes, poor woke driven writing, which is being commisioned by agenda driven studio higher ups. No-one is placing full blame on woke ideology but that's at the root of all this. And it has been an utter disaster for Disney, and for TV and movies in general.

It doesn't matter if you "can't abide it" or not, it's a fact. Putting identity politics at the forefront of everything they do, shouting it from the rooftops, then attacking the fans when they don't like their crap or being lectured too rather than entertained, isn't just poor writing, rushed productions etc...it's also their failed attempts to turn everything into a social commentary on the modern World, I say commentary, I mean ham-fisted lecture..

I'm afraid the panderverse has failed, a lot like Disney and their utter degradation of SW and Marvel...and the ruination of other IP'S too.

Isn't there already another thread for the "MCU molested my pet, star wars stole my girlfriend, Disney stole my kids packed lunch", that this anti Disney/Woke stuff can go in?

rp2000
There is yes, although this movie seems to be a bit of a microcosm of the percived problems with Marvel.

Up to 61% on RT now, it's slowly climbing!!

You’ve just made my point far more succinctly than I ever could. Thank you!
