I plan on buying the bigNG, and have seen a few mentions on forums about the software being a bit old, has anyone got it working successfully working on Windows 8 64-bit?

Also, once it's set up I don't need to keep the software running on startup/as a service do I? I'd quite like the t-balancer to do it's own thing without the old software running in background.

Better off getting an Aquaero 5 LT bud. Slightly cheaper and software is definately supported in Windows 8 (and its still a current product - not eol)

bigNG works with Win7 (32 and 64bit) no idea if it will work with 8
Unless your planning an ultra quiet pc or 38mm fans go with the Aquaero 5 LT.

I've used both and can't remember anything significant running in the back ground, unless you want desktop widgets.
both are autonomous by design and use the software as an interface (well i think so anyway)
