Hi All

Just posting this to find out if anything exists that can do the above?

Basically I want to be able to push software out to 30 Ubuntu (12.04 i think) netbooks without doing it one by one. Is this even possible?

The setup is in a school with a windows based environment (server 2008) so deploying software to windows machines is a piece of cake but doing the same for Ubuntu isn't.

So you Linux experts what do you recommend I do?

Sorry, no. But Chef seems to be the popular choice, the only other one I've heard mentioned on a regular basis is puppet.

Ah ok.

When searching online puppet was coming back, but I quite like the look of chef.

Thanks again

Can you set Ubuntu to automatically query a software repository and install if it finds anything new there (I know who can on RHEL but I don't use Ubuntu) ? If so I would do that so when systems were connected to the network they would automatically install/patch.

Puppet ... when used properly can work well for managing software configurations (I have seen people have issues with it but that was due to using it badly rather than an issue with the software).

Spacewalk on the listed page is good, as it's the opensource version of Red Hats Satellite product, but I don't know if it support Ubuntu.
