MDS file format conversion

Trying to help one of my colleagues...

He has an MDS file that he needs to edit but nothing will open it. As I understand it, and MDS file is a DVD image file that contains the info for things like autoplay and layer changes, etc - correct? Is there a little utility that can strip the video out of the MDS and into something like an AVI, MPEG, etc? I've Googled but can't find anything concrete.

Lacking a bit of info but...
Alcohol 120 or Daemon may open it.
When mounted a DVD converter program should be able turn the contents into what you want.
