I bought the Limited Edition of Mass Effect 2 for PC on release day. I completed the game and started a second play through with all the DLC that was available around one month after release and was always on the Cerberus Network. I then stopped playing.
Just over a week ago i decided to try the game again. When i get to the Main menu the game tries to connect to the Cerberus Network but returns this "Error. Communication with Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out. Try again later."
I thought there may have been some scheduled downtime so i left it. I tried it again a few days later and i had the same error. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game as well as renaming the Mass Effect 2 folder in My Games so i had no settings or save games, but the problem is still there.
I decided to check up on the Bioware forums and found a thread that started six months ago with the same problem i have now and people still post there now, less then a day ago actually. I tried the fixes within the thread such as:
1) Click start, go to 'All Programs', then 'Accessories', look for 'Command Prompt'.
Right-click on Command Prompt, click on 'Run As Administrator', if you get a security prompt, just choose continue or allow.
In command prompt, type, "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled".
Exit Command prompt, and your game should be working.
2) Go to control Panel, you should see the search bar in the top right
type: Windows Features, Programs and Features should pop up,
select Turn Windows Features on or off, you should see a box blocked it for Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1
select the plus sign and check the box for both windows communication foundation HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation,
3) I even disabled windows firewall and did some port forwarding on my router.
None of those fixes worked for me. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
If anyone has this game installed and not played it for a while (2-4 months) would you mind booting it up and seeing if you can cannot to the Cerberus Network?
I'm in contact with EA live chat / email support and they have no idea what is going on. Their last idea was to move all my ME2 keys to a new account and see if i can then connect to the Cerberus Network with new details. The problem with that idea is that i can't even get to the login/password screen when i boot the game up since the error appears and stops me progressing any further.
