measuring fps

what programs do you use to measure FPS?

Fraps, or MSI afterburner.

yeah just realised msi afterburner has that facility.

Is 60 FPS in civ 5 any good? thats what it was running average. dipped to 48 at one brief point. think thats on medium settings

yep, i'd say so. although civ tends to get slower as the game progresses, try a marathon game and see what it says about 1990 or so.

Not sure what the date was but I was quite a long way in to that game as I had researched future tech a few times.

It was on medium settings. With high/full settings I'd be more interested to see how much it drops when I next get the chance to have a go.

Before I upgraded my cpu, mobo & ram it used to crash all the time. Think that was because the mobo was on its way out. Been solid since I changed a few months ago.

^ Yup, this.
I do sometimes find my FPS varies wildly, but I assume part of that is running all my games from an HDD instead of an SSD.

That shouldn't make any difference as the textures are mostly loaded onto the vram.

Afterburner plus you get on screen temps and info with it too

I like to use Fraps, it's minimalistic and does exactly what it says on the tin. Not tried the one in afterburner but they all do the same thing

60fps is pretty good too. I get around 40-50fps on my 7850 2gb in Battlefield 3.
