Mechanical Keyboard acting strange

Hi all. Looking for some help with my mechanical keyboard.

It's a Filco Majestouch-II Tenkeyless with MX Browns. I bought it about 18 months ago, maybe a bit more. For the first 6-9 months it worked fine but then the problems started.

Firstly I had trouble with the keyboard not being detected at startup, meaning entering BIOS and doing things like switching to Safe Mode were not possible. When I reached Windows the keyboard would work fine so I just ignored it at first.

Then a month or two after this, it stopped being detected at Windows startup and necessitated being unplugged from the PC and reconnected, at which point it would be detected and all would be fine.

Then a month or two after that, the PC started refusing to boot with the keyboard connected at all, it would just hang at BIOS screen until I unplugged it.

Fast forward to now, I still get all the symptoms above no matter what USB port I connect it to, plus I keep getting USB errors in Windows when it's connected and it randomly drops for a few seconds every half an hour or so (I can hear the bing-bong of a device being detected).

Now is this likely to be the keyboard or the USB bus being a berk?

Note that when the keyboard works it works well, but clearly it and my PC have some serious issues. Everything else connected via USB (my spare keyboard, my mouse, my 360 controller) all work fine.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem that I thought was keyboard/mouse related but it turned out to be a failing overclock.

My Filco's USB cable recently died and it did some weird things until it completely gave up. Does the keyboard cause these problems with other computers? If it does, then it may need replacing.

You can get a replacement at 'Pexon PCs', with some very high quality hand made cables that are cheaper than the Filco replacement cables, and also come in a variety of colours, lengths, coiled, etc. :)

I was skeptical about how the cable could have broke, when the rest of the thing is so solidly built. But it's true, the cables really are ****.
