I'm looking to get a new keyboard to replace my dying Razor Lycosa Mirror, which i love but my daughter kicked a cup of coffee into it and its slowly dying key by key.
We use it for a 50/50 mix of browsing/work and gaming.
I've never had a mechanical keyboard and think its finally time for me to take the plunge.

Just by having a quick look around myself the Razor Blackwidow Chroma and Corsair K70 RGB stand out, i really like the idea of the RGB backlit keyboards.

The Corsair looks wise is gorgeous, but i'm put off by how inaccessible the software sounds in every review I've read and after using the horrible Corsair Link software for my h100i GTX im even more put off
I also worry i would choose the wrong sort of Cherry MX keys for me, i think i would probably go for browns as a happy medium?

The Razor i dont think is quite as nice looks wise, but the backlighting looks brighter and clearer.
I love the Razor Synapse software and already using it for my Deathadder 2013.
It sounds like the Razor Green keys are above average but not quite as nice to use as Cherry MX, the one thing i like about it is the choice of picking the right key is removed from me so i wouldnt always be thinking i could have picked a slightly better switch for me.

At the minute im leaning slightly more towards the Razor model but my minds not made up yet.

I think your the first person I know who says they love the Razor software.

Have you had a look at the Apex M800?

I have a K95 RGB with blues.

I love it, the software is fine I find but I don't have complex macro lighting effects going on. It's very well built, the only thing I'd change is the addition of a USB hub.

The Razor Synapse just works and does its job with no fuss, i love when i reformat not having to mess about getting my mouse settings perfect again etc.

I don't know if i would go for the k95 over the k70, the only difference is the extra keys right?

Ducky Legend with red mx's and white led's for £99 on ocuk is what I currently use. Have had browns too on another board which I slightly prefer if I'm honest.

My corsair was rubbish, had nothing but problems. That said had I not it would have been a cracking board

Yup, that's the only difference, the macro keys.

Sounds like a bad experience. Did you have problems with the hardware or the CUE software?

I had a 1st generation Saitek Eclipse up until last week. Finally took the plunge on a new keyboard, found a good price on the Ducky Shine 4 (brown switches)

It's fantastic!!! I cannot believe the difference, it feels so good to type, much more accurate too. I highly recommend this keyboard if you can get it. Also zero need for any software, works right out of the box and the backlit colours are wonderful.

I just got my blackwidow chroma, im head over heels in love with it.
Not saying its the best mechanical keyboard in the world but coming from a razer lycosa mirror to this is like a different world.
Just had a quick game on CS:GO and it was just so so good

K70, thing is a damned tank! Nothing beats the metal construction IMO. Or a K95 if you want/need macro keys. Or the RGB varient if you fancy some fancy light show.

Going to take me a few days getting used to the position of the caps lock on the Blackwidow Chroma, just starting to now.
Keep hitting it instead of the A button.
Thats the only fault i can find with it, i LOVE LOVE LOVE it lol

I have a Steel series M800

I got that after spilling wine on my QPAD QT85 too many times with Cherry MX blues.

I miss the QPAD... my opinion of the M800 mirrors the new Linus review...

So I'm giving the M800 away for free and have just ordered two Corsair K70... one with blue and one with brown.

I know I like blue, but I like the idea of brown... so I ordered both and will return my least favourite.

As your use is 50/50 typing/gaming... stick with cherry mx

Blues are amazing for typing, but couldn't get on with them for gaming.

So also bought a board with browns. I tend to use my brown switch board more often than not.

If your being serious about this and you mean to forum people, me please :D

Lol... Serious about it, yes... But I have already decided who I'm giving it to :p

I was happy with the blues for both... But yes, awesome for typing.

I'm hoping the Browns will be that touch softer actuation and a little quieter but similar feel.
