Anyone got one? I really like the idea because I remember using one at school and it being awesome to type with.

I'm just wondering if it gets old quick/ the clickyness gets annoying? Don't want to blow £80 odd on something I'll want rid of 2 days later.

I use em at work, and I don't really notice the clickyness any more. I did to begin with, but in a weird kind of way it helps me type better, because every key sounds a little different, so I know which letter I just pressed :) ...... it sounds so sad when I read it back lol

Theres quite a large thread on them here if you want to take a look
Re them being "clicky" that depends which keys you go for, I just bought a QPAD MK80 with black keys and its awesome :D they normally come with blues (which are clicky but theyre doing custom sales direct ATM link

Have a look here for key types if you dont already know

I find the tickitytickitytickitytickity can become mighty irritating but like all noises in life you'll probably become accustomed to it eventually. The same cannot be said for everyone who has to listen to you type - it's definitely not something I'd consider if your workplace runs a popularity contest :P it does have a certain nostalgic, typewriterish ring to it though.

Very nice to type on, yes, but I've never really experienced any problems typing on a regular ol' keyboard. Honestly, the only way you can decide is by using one. I find the sound of cars going past on the street unbearable, but my girlfriend says it's quite relaxing. I'd say it's entirely down to personal preference.

Test the waters and get one. At best, you'll fall in love and your fingers will have a new best friend. At worst, you'll want to repeatedly smash it over someone's head, but under the EU distance selling directive if you buy something online you're allowed to change your mind and return the item, to a full refund, up to seven days from the date you receive it - should be a fair amount of time to make a decision!

I suggest you read the thread linked by 95thrifles, however I will point out right here that not all mechanical keyboards are clicky ...as you will find out when you read you can get clicky/tactile, tactile and linear switches ...with varying degrees of sensitivity too.

In answer to your question, yes I have a mechanical keyboard (I wouldn't use anything else) ...two actually, and only one of them is clicky, the one on my main system is actually using linear switches so is very quiet provided I don't bottom out on the keys when typing. The clicky one I have is an original IBM Model M, so buckling springs rather than Cherry Switches and is as clicky and noisy as they come but to be honest I kind of lick the sound when I am typing on it. I would hate to listen to someone else using it though, I imagine that would get very irritating, not that, that is an issue for me.

I highly recommend a mechanical keyboard to anyone who types a lot and anyone who games actually ...a low sensitivity linear switch is nice for gaming ...not so much the clicky ones though.

I use cherry MX blues every day, the "noisiest" of them all. After a while the sound blends into the background, so you don't notice it. All mechanical keyboards are slightly noisy though, here is a quick video I did to show the difference between Cherry Reds and Blues

i just bought the razer black widow ultimte after using the cyborg v7 and i love it so nice to use.

it is abit noisy but im prepared to put up with for the pleasure using it gives me...

Well I've had Filco Ninja 87 key Brown Cherry for the past 3 months and they are awesome. I shelled out 120£ for it. I've just placed an order for a Realforce 87u. One you go mechanical - there is no going back! google around... there are nice guides out there.

NO ONE CAN MAKE YOUR MIND UP! you must try the keyboard yourself. Try out youtube, checkout noise levels at geekhack or pimping mechs out ... there is a whole community out there...

OCN has a couple of good pages on mechanical boards.

deskthority and geekhack are good sources of info.
