Does such a beast exist? I've had a quick search with no success.

The only keyboard switch I've made over the years that actually helped my gaming - primarily fps - was moving over to low profile keyboards. Surely low profile and mechanical would be the best of all worlds. Now i'm used to low profile even the best mechanical keyboard feel like a clunky step back.

AFAICT the mechanical bits in a mechanical keyboard make it a lot thicker than a low-profile keyboard. You can't fit the mechanism into a thin package, as there is isn't room. Look at the keyboard guide. Look at the size of a cherry mechanism from a mechanical keyboard compared to a scissor switch from a low profile keyboard.

I too would love as low a profile mechanical as possible. But as mentioned the physical size of piece parts aren't going to allow it.

However, what I have done is buy one with a very large, i.e deep, gently sloped wrist rest. So you then don't notice the height. Also a little tip, from me would be the fitting of alternative key caps to the bottom row, which are sloped in the opposite direction. So for example the CTRL, ALT keys etc now are tillted towards you instead of away from you. This means that for me at least its far more comfortable if you like to have your hand in a less elevated position.

Corsair K series are quite low profile, I'm using a K60 without the extending legs and it sits very flat on my desk :)

Cheers for the info, Steampunk. I figured there must have been a reason why a keyboard of this type doesn't exist. Cheers for the other suggestions btw, guys, but I can't see myself going back to full keys. For the last 5 years or so I've been using one of these:

Or should I say 3 as they wear out after a few years heavy gaming :) Can't moan for £20 a pop tho.

Cherry makes an ML switch which is much lower in profile than the usual MX package.

Although it is still nowhere near as low profile as that and afaik only compact keyboards carry this switch.
