As title, the 1st gen Amazon fire box is about had it. Out of the loop regards media boxes, seems to be plethora of them now.

Looking around seems Roku are highly rated as are skystream.

Want it for Netflix, Prime, Kodi ect. Not interested in games.

Pick up a firestick for £25 quid and install what you want on it?

The boxes are pretty much all the same once you're inside the apps anyway and it doesn't need hacked or anything to install what you want as it is running android.

Have looked at the firestick , no lan port from what I see, would rather have it hard wired tbh. not essential though.

There around the 50 mark looking around. Am just trying a factory reset to see if that solves the playback on prime issues first.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys :D

I've been thinking about getting the Xiaomi mi box s after seeing some good reviews. Android TV interface without the high Nvidia shield price

We don't use Netflix but so use Amazon Prime and use the latest Raspberry Pi with Libreelec. That has Kodi and we just use a user created App from the Kodi forums for Prime. Not the best of apps, in terms of how you find stuff etc, but it works fine. I think there is a Netflix app as well.
Just watching the four seasons of Bosch with the PI via Amazon. Works fine.
It does have wireless but I prefer to use it wired.
Good thing about the Pi is its phenomenal Kodi support with its latest builds.

We are still at 1080p with our Plasma GT50 TV, but I guess you are as well as you are using the first gen Fire TV box . Still got mine, in the loft.

You can buy an ethernet adaptor.

I got my 4K stick for £35 they regularly drop the price just keep yer eyes peeled for the next drop in price.

Just a quick update, after a reset the fire box works fine now, must have got corrupted or whatever. So fingers crossed am fine for now.

Having said that, I fancy a new toy :o

Would like to know what people are using apart from fire tv.

Ive tried a couple of 'android tv' boxes off the rain forest but they have either been too slow or have had other issues, Bluetooth etc .

There must be some decent android boxes out there apart from the 'shield' which are quick, run kodi+ addons fine etc.

Anyone have a decent one they recommend?

I have one of them very impressed with it. Very limited options for the proper android TV experience, the mi box is about the cheapest way to get it and it's been very good for me.

hadn't heard of skystream, but, unlike roku seems it is an android box, so does it have the drm to receive 4k streaming services ?
currently use a roku, but for more versatility am considering gemini lake celeron min-pc. ie windows
