Linksys currently offer a Wifi & cabled MCExtender.

I'm thinking of getting one for the living room. I already have a media PC running XP MCE in one of the bedrooms (connected with Cat5).

How exactly does the MCExtender work? I know what it does, but does it run cloning the media pc, or can it do one thing, whilst the media pc is doing another?

Secondly, the media pc has the MS remote etc, does it have it's own remote or can it pass through commands to the media pc with the MS remote?

And finally, are there any other ones (cheaper?) £200 is a bit pricey. I know the X360 has MCExtender capabilities and the price isn't all that far off the Linksys. Does the X360 work in the same way? Better/worse?

Cheers

Been setting up my XBOX 360 to an MCE media server. It basically uses remote desktop so you can have multiple clients doing different things whilst you can be on the main PC doing whatever it is you want to do.

Been having issus linking the whole lot together as there seems to be a conflict with Zone Alarm Pro or NOD32. Don't know which yet. Interface is quite cool and the interface is indentical to MCE when it is in media centre mode.

Just be aware that you want 100mb cabling etc or better as 10mb won't let you stream HD video.

Take a look on www.xpmce.com
