i feel silly for asking this as it should be a simple thing but for some reason my media centre on W7 has stopped opening on my monitor 2 (plasma tv). I dont know why it has stopped doing this but it has. Now when i go into configure the tv and monitor settings when i choose 'the wizard is not showing on my preferred display' it tell me my preferred display is not connected although it is 2 monitors are showing in device manager.

i tried installing that maxifier program but it does not work either.

any suggestions here:(

Have you tried opening WMC on your monitor 1, un-maximising it, dragging the window to monitor 2 (the TV), re-maximising it and then running the settings wizard?

FWIW, I've also found that WMC can be a bit, well, unpredictable when you're using the desktop in extended mode and running WMC on the second screen, and it often forgets where it's supposed to be after closing (even though it should remember). I tend to just use Winkey+P and switch to "projector only" before launching WMC - it's not quite as convenient, but when I'm watching something in WMC fullscreen on monitor 2, monitor 1 also being active is a distraction in any case.

I didn't know about that Maxifier thing, but it looks like it was created for Vista and never got beyond beta stage for Win7, so it might be best avoided...

well done mate your a star, that method worked for getting it to the other monitor, run the wizard and rebooted and it still remembers to open on monitor 2. Many thanks.

i have been lucky up till now it usually always opens on the second monitor but as you say it somehow forgets this. i use my remote control so im not at the pc so its a pain having to get up and down to change the monitors. I also use Teamviewer to remote control my media pc from my laptop, thats handy too.

yeah that maxifier is meant to give you control of the mouse pointer, im not sure if there is another way to do this without having to press the windows key to let you use the mouse on the other monitor whilst using media center.
