thx, that is definitely a good idea but I was trying to build the essential part first due to limited budge, and leave some space for future upgrading if possible

And also I was wondering, in terms of memory, is it worth going for 2*4G for the same purpose or 2*2G for now and probably another 2*2G later.

id get this, comes to almost the same as your build.

thx, guys. my only concern about my build is whether I spend right amount of money on the right stuffs. The case is another story since it is probably the only way to stop her getting an apple. I was looking at the cube one too (cute!), but not quite sure whether there is sufficient space inside and it seems to me that the sound card I pick requires an extra bay at the front. I am thinking of having some hifi system connected to the pc, so I would like to spend some good money on the sound card(as pc is not well known as the sound source), and I am easy with the graphic card as long as it can handle latest games on high setting.

5850 will do the job fine and will save a lot of cash over a 480, the card you chose is very expensive, you need to watch some reviews, wait till tomorrow and see what others say. i dont think there is a need for a card so expensive, especially as the soundcard you listed is aimed at gaming not really htpc/audio

So, is this a Media PC or is it a gaming PC?
the two things are worlds appart.

A Gaming PC hooked to a TV?

EDIT, Sorry to put a downer on this thread BTW, but to my mind, a Media PC / HTPC, needs to be near as it can be to Silent, lots of space and a nice AMP Looking desktop case like the Fusion.

Thanks to danewesley's advice, I think I will go for this card instead, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-008-AS&groupid=701&catid=11&subcat=

This pc is not meant to be a heavy gaming machine, so I am not too concerned about the gpu(no more than 10% of time will be spent on games but good graphic quality does sound good) etc. Although I would like some cpu power so that she can do some editing as well.

Is there any solution that I can make this as silent as possible please?

Good to mention, the pc will be still running on desktop monitor :)
