EDIT: Finished! Pics posted below :)

Problems:
firstly, i was expecting a low quality PSU to be shipped with case but damn! that is a new low on quality! :o im not even going to turn that one and whats with the 13amp fused plug im not building a nuclear power station!
so im using a HIGH quality 450w corsair PSU i had spare (way too much for this low spec system but does the job)
another problem with the case is the front panel is loose on the bottom-right corner and as far as i can tell its not designed to be a removable panel
moving on to the HDD its B-Grade its 250 GB no damaged sectors, but when i plugged the sata cable in i notice the board on it has a slight 'wobble' like theres maybe a screw missing? i didn't check but will have to look at it later

moving on... (not all bought from ocuk) (mix-n-match job)
SPECS:
RS400-A mobo (for SKT775)
P4 3 GHz HT
1 GB DDR2 RAM
7300 GS
250 GB HDD SATA
16x DVD-rw IDE
Arctic freezer 7 (AMAZING COOLER!!! need to get another one for my main pc) (old pc have a bad overheating + 4500 RPM cpu fan problem)
and the 450w corsair PSU

questions: both the mobo and cpu allows for 24/20 pin and 4 pin connectors i went with 20+4 pin setup as thats what i was using before, if i use 24 pin does that mean i would have too disconnect the 4 pin? and i ran a psu tester on the psu before installing and the -5v light didn't come on but pc works fine? what does this mean?

thats it for now think i have more questions later but going to rest for now :)

this is a budget job 'media centre' pc so don't be too shocked by the ghetto-ness of the next pics..

Oh gawd, sorry to comment on that older case but I just have too. :p

Those cases were so awful! stupid hinges/corners and I bet it's really heavy too?

i havn't got a 'proper' desk for it so this will have to do

this setup will also be used as a 'guest pc' for LAN gaming but im not sure exactly what games will run well on this just yet (need advise)

next pics will be inside the case (will be a while as phone is on change so can't get round to it just yet)

yes they were big and heavy lol, i think the case must be about 20 years old by now (no i didn't have it for all that time) its been passed around the family a lot with different specs in, when i first had it i had a Pentium 3 inside!

messm.jpg

and heres the inside for you :) the BIG metal bit surrounding the psu 'area' made it hard to get all those cables in :o

short history:
the 30 GB drive failed
the 15 GB works but i don't have it
the BIG grey cable is a SCSI connected to a 16x CD-rw and 8x CD-r drive (no longer using these) they work but have reached the end of their 'use' :)

I would be inclined to turn the cooler so the fan is facing the front of the case and put a extract fan at the rear.

well its the first time i have ever fitted a custom cooler, have always used the intel stock fans up to now, would it really make much difference if i turned it?

PROBLEM!!! the corsair failed today! pc switched on with fan but nothing came on screen so i tryed the old 300w and that worked fine with it so thats how i knows its the PSU, who said these psu's are good quality! this is the 2nd one i have ever had after the first one failed years ago and i got it replaced and have kept it boxed up (unused) for a while untill i used it in this pc and its broke again! :(

Hard lines I'm afraid. Tried connecting it back up and trying your luck again? Maybe something just needed reseated.

well im using the 500w that came with case now (the one i really didn't want to use) but test 1 is complete: pc boots up and i can access bios, now i just need to connect everything and test again

EDIT all works fine again! the cheapo psu can handle it!

i fixed the loose front panel! had to 'force' a screw into the back of the panel, lucky there were plastic funnel holes to do this with

and WHY is the front usb upside down on this case?
