Hello,

I will be building a small media centre PC, i'm not to fussy about what OS & I will use what ever is best. The machine will be using a Via 1Ghz CPU, and will be looking for hardware/software that can do the following things:

* USB2 powered
* Connect to composite source
* Set recordings from a remote control
* Set a timed record that will boot the PC up to start recording and shut down afterwards
* Hardware decoding to reduce CPU usage (Not required but preferred)

Anyone know what Hardware / Software to use so i can accomplish this?

Cheers

Personally i think dual core is a must for when your burning a dvd, converting, and watching something all at once.

I need the machine to be low powered as it will run off a battery and Via's run at 15-20 watts.

All the machine will be doing is recording, nothing else.

Yes, and if it doesnt straight away you can add all sorts of plugins to it from the site to add functions. Its free as well.

Excellent, what USB2 device would you recommend to use with it, all it needs is composite or s-video port and hardware accelerated would also be nice, I do not require a TV tuner so doesn't matter if it has one or not.
