Media centre nightmare please help.

I have an issue with a media centre that I built.
Thermaltake tenor case
AMD Athlon San Diego 4000+
Thermaltake blue orb cooler
Thermaltake pure power 500W
2Gb Crucial DDR400 Ram
Asus A8V deluxe
Hauppage Nova T DVB3
WD 300Gb caviar

Everything works a treat and I was well happy until now. For some reason while playing music it keeps getting stuck like a needle jumping on a record and then carries on. I have turned off any auto updates and other programs from running in the background in case this is causing the fault but it keeps doing it. I have about 120Gb of music saved at Windows lossless but cannot enjoy it because of the intermittent jumping of tracks. I have defragged and gone over all that I can think off. Has anyone else had this problem or could you think of why it might be happening?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

:D

Drivers up to date?
Spyware / Virus checks up to date and not using that sodding Norton junk.
HD checking out ok?

Yea all the drivers are up to date. Norton (no way) came with the mobo but I refuse to use it.
Hd is fine with no errors and has been defragged.
Been trying without connection to internet on and it seems to be ok. I had turned auto updates off anyway but maybe it is searching for something else like the tv guide??
