Just looking for abit of advice on turning my computer into a fully fledged media centre.

I do everything media related on pc, films, music etc.

What I want to do is turn it into a proper media centre PC with media centre software and remote.

My question is basicly what software and remote should I get?

Thinking about getting vista ultimate, is this gd for media centre?
Also thinking about X-FI pro edition which comes with remote, could I get this to work with media centre? or should I get a diff remote and media software?

Any opinions welcome.

Hi I use Vista ultimate 64 and also have my xbox 360 hooked to it for HD media playback on my plasma display in living room and it all works fine.
I have the logitech S510 I think it is, keyboard mouse and media remote and all works fine for me remote works well when using the PC localy for playback etc. in media centre :)

Thanks for reply, My biggest concern is really the remote, I want a very functional one. My housemate has that remote and if I'm honest I would want a better one.

Any other opinions?

Nothing stopping you buying a proper learning remote afterwards. I use Home Theatre Master MX-700, the pre-programmed database has a few descrite MC codes (direct My Movies, My Photos and My Music commands) I would just stick to XP Media Centre.
No need to go for most expensive X-Fi to get the remote, just get basic soundcard (or use onboard, or onboard digital out) and then use Media Centre IR dongle/remote kit for 22 quid.
