Hi there.

Recieved a .wav from a business partner, but i'm unable to listen to it.

It's a recording of a telephone call, and the error that appears is that i'm missing the GSM610 (86) codec (code 0x0086, i've discovered).

No amount of digging has brought to light information on this mythical GSM610 codec. Forum questions go unanswered, downloads lead to porn (which i'm worried about!), and i've hit a dead end.

The partner insists that the format of the file cannot be changed. I'm assuming that since GSM is a telecomms company, this file is recorded direct from their phone network using a software that encrypts the data in a manner no other software can seem to read. Windows Media Player doesnt work, their Codec Pack doesnt work, VLC doesnt work, Winamp doesnt work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

get that person to convert it to mp3, or ask them what software they use for it..

used to hate crap like this in my old job!

-try loading it in 'gspot' and see what codec it reports

What's gspot? have you got a link to it? I'll probably be getting stern emails if i start googling for "Gspot" at work ;)
